It started out as a fun summer trip west to the ranch....now we live here. Our days are filled with the serenity of the mountains, the beauty of the high desert and the adventures of life on the ranch.

Suspended
The 2 guys have a strap around their waist where they are suspended so they can hang over the sheep while they shear it so they do not hurt their backs.
Twins
So, as we were sitting at this little restaurant, the old soccer coach was telling me about how they had just had lamb twins that morning. And went on to say how it was such a neat experience for her kids to be able to be a part of this day that she actually took them out of school early to be part of it. She said we were more than welcome to come up.

The best day ever!
One thing that I just love about living here is that you wake up in the morning and think it may be a regular day, just another ordinary day, but what is amazing is what can unfold from there!
So, like I said before, we woke up to our first calf being born this morning. And that was really exciting seeing as the last one that was born died. We pretty much spent the entire morning at the ranch just doing a really good job with our chores. We decided that before the spring really came, we should work on cleaning out the coop. So the chickens had a little outing and we cleaned out the coop. And that really took most of the morning.
I'm not exactly sure what Benjamin was doing the whole time, but he was very busy with whatever it was. Well, Hunter, he laid down across the surface of the crusty snow and slid across like he was doing the backstroke. With the shovel! So, Katie and I actually did most of the work, which was just fine with us.
We had to come to town and get another part for the car, so while that was getting fixed we went across the street and had lunch at the little local restaurant that is there. And because this is a small town, we ran into someone that we know. It was Katie's old soccer coach. Now if you remember correctly, we did not really do soccer for very long because it was very intense and a little too much for us.
Anyway, the soccer coach and the rest of her family all have sheep and today was the day they were all getting sheared. So, I kind of invited us over! :-)
