I knew from the minute Katie was born and I was so sick that Scott would be a great father! I can remember Katie being about four days old and realizing I had not even changed her diaper yet because I had not even gotten out of the hospital bed!
And now that just rolls over into Scott being the father of all fathers to every single calf being born these days!
This is number 517 and she and her mom just did not quite get it. So we had together them both up and take them down into the small pen so the calf would start nursing.
The longer you wait, the weaker the calf gets. When Scott had walked out into the pasture, he could tell the calf was not getting what she needed. One way to tell is to stick your finger in the mouth of the calf and feel the temperature. If it is cold, things are not going well and her mouth was cold.
